昭和時代への傾倒が高じて大阪万博に関心を持った半田は、万博会場特有の空気を体感するために、仕事の合間を縫って愛知万博に7回訪れた。さらにそこで、マンホールや手すり、警備員などを写真に収めた。この事について半田は、パビリオンは放っておいても公式ガイドブックなどに記録されるが、それらは誰かが自発的に撮影しなくては記録されないからだ、と説明している。
